RICTA in partnership with ISOC conducted a training for local engineers from local ISPs and Network operators on a practical training that took 3 weeks since 6th April 2020.
The training was conducted via an online tool moodle where all participants access the material study at their pace and was facilitated by experts from ISOC and Afninc.
The topics covered are mainly from MANRS (Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security), MANRS is an initiative from ISOC where network community operator began to improve the security and resilience of the global routing system.
RICTA/RINEX became a member of MANRS IXP programme in 2017 and now is involving its members to learn and mobilize them to join MANRS hence this training was organized.
Below are 4 actions of MANRS which was discussed:
- Filitering
- Anti-spoofing
- Coordination
- Global Validation
Applied technics will highly improve internet routing system, and it will bring positive impact to ISP customers on security level, because some security vulnerabilities will be addressed from ISP level and eliminate most common routing threats.
“The training was very beneficial & relevant to me. The content was organized and easy to follow.
Worldwide, as thousands of routing incidents occur, security of the global Internet routing is crucial to the Internet’s reliability & stability.
I understand much better different ways on how to improve our network securities by implementing different techniques learned.
Thank you very much for the opportunity, it was a pleasure to attend this training, I learned something new & I am planning network optimization to reinforce MANRS actions” said David Bushake from KTRN Rwanda.
“This was an interesting course, very practical and we are going to plan an implementation process of technical skills gained” said Gatete Yves from Axiom said.
The course will end on 1st May where all participant will get certificate of completion and with ISOC partnership, RICTA will continue to impact its members with technical skills and best practices.
